Series: Fire Portraits (2016 – Present).

Artist’s Note:

I felt that the text from Historian, Giraldi Cambrensis, was very appropriate for this Fire Portrait, of a fiery demon (of some sort): “Causam Ignorantes Urbis Incendium Tunc.”
[Then they do not know the cause of the burning of the city]. However, such destruction can only come from some Evil source: and thus, the source of this disaster is known — And its name is ‘Evil’.

“Having thus demonstrated his usefulness, Gerald was selected to accompany the Archbishop of Canterbury, Baldwin of Forde, on a tour of Wales in 1188, the object being a recruitment campaign for the Third Crusade. His account of that journey, the Itinerarium Cambriae (1191) was followed by the Descriptio Cambriae in 1194.” (Wikipedia)

“Giraldus Cambrensis, also called Gerald Of Wales, or Gerald De Barri, (born c. 1146, Manorbier Castle, Pembrokeshire, Wales—died c. 1223), archdeacon of Brecknock, Brecknockshire (1175–1204), and historian, whose accounts of life in the late 12th century stand as a valuable historical source.” (Source: ).
