Photography Everyday?

“One question I get asked sometimes is, “Do I do photography everyday?””

“The simple answer is, ‘No’, I don’t photograph subjects everyday.

In fact, sometimes, one, two, or even three weeks may roll by between the actual process of photographing things.

I know, that is ‘BLASPHEMOUS’, some other Photographers may exclaim!

Well, here is my reasoning: IF, I photographed everyday, I would never get to the actual creation of Art Photographs that I do, and my photographic art pieces do take (considerable) time to complete.

I already have a backlog of RAW images that I need to edit and work with. Maybe other Photographers need to be photographing everyday, but I don’t! I already have enough RAW images I need to work with, and I can only do that if I am at my desk, working with those images on my TAB (or a computer) and doing the ACTUAL creative work to design images for my various series.

So, ‘No’ is the answer to that question. When I run low on RAW image files, or, if I just want to go take pictures, then, I grab my camera and hit the streets to find new subject matter. Nevertheless, I am always composing images in my mind, and photographing images in my mind as I walk around: It is a habit for me.

☆ I do always carry my camera with me, as that is PHOTOGRAPHY’S FIRST CARDINAL RULE: ‘ALWAYS HAVE YOUR CAMERA WITH YOU’!

However, that does not mean that I always take my camera out and capture photographs for nothing. In my opinion, a subject REALLY needs to POP-OUT at me and grab my attention, or look VERY interesting for me to compose a picture with my camera. It is just the way I am now, with my photography.

Series Description:
These artworks are photo-creations of Nawfal Johnson’s original paintings, and also, image creations from photographs captured of decaying urban walls. “Disorderly-Order”, the name of this series, has two distinct meanings. One, there is a method (Order) to the madness (Disorder) in the execution of these artworks. Two, the artist is taking a “more orderly” painting, or a fragment of an urban wall (photographed), and turing it up-side-down, and inside out, to get to the final photographic art representation. The disorderly from within the work, that is the order of the design built into the photographic artwork. Thus, these are ‘two-steps’ artwork creations—first-step, creating a painting (or photographing an urban still-life of a wall); and then, second-step, taking the original creation and designing a final art photograph.

Here is a better presentation of my photograph.

————

I don’t believe I have gotten any likes on any of my photographs at the Olympus contest, but that seems very typical. Either people don’t visit my images, or they aren’t interesting……….hahaha! The people aren’t interesting, not my photos.

OR, people DON’T hit the “Like” button for my photos…….

because, there are no beautiful women in them.

Hey, I will hit the “Like” button within 5 seconds of seeing a photograph that has a gorgeous woman in it. Don’t you? Come on, be honest…it doesn’t necessarily need to be a good photo overall as long as the photographer has not cut the top of the model’s head off, or blown-out the highlights. The background won’t matter too much either, as long as, there are no pointy tree branches sticking out of the model’s head, as if she had been jabbed with a stick to the head. As long as the model is beautiful, nothing else really matters, HIT THE FRACKING “LIKE” BUTTON, RIGHT! That’s the way it usually goes.

But, of course, I am being a little sarcastic, can’t you tell? The Devil IS in the details!

I just hope the judges do not base their decision on the number of ridiculous “Likes” a photo has…

… Because, the number of Likes do NOT determine a photograph’s quality!

I can guarantee you that there are probably plenty of so-so photographs of pretty women in them, submitted to this contest—I am just taking an educated guess based on previous experiences with other photography contests. That is fine and OK, but please, I hope the judging of images looks beyond superficial matters, and instead, looks at details, composition, quality, etc. And, I’m sure Olympus will because of their respected judges.
