⊙How I Organize and Keep Track of My Already Used Image Files!

I used to think I was organized. I must have been lying to myself just to make myself feel better about, 1) My lack of good organization systems; or, 2) My chaotic memory….Or…Both.

■ The problem with having a bad organization system for your photography files.

If you lack organization with your photo files, you may not know which photo files you have worked with, which have been edited, which have been used already, and those you wanted to delete.

● A Solution — My Solution, in Steps:

  1. I download files from my camera SD card into one general folder on my device SD card.
  2. Since I deleted most files I wanted to delete already, in camera, while doing my RAW conversions, I can start moving individual photos to specific folders; for example, “Cloud Art”, “ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM”, etc.
  3. I organize my photos alphabetically, so when I choose to design a new art piece, I usually start with the first one in the folder.
  4. I rename the file and add the label, “Orig” for original, so I know it is Edit A in my Naming System.
  5. After I do all of my design work to my art piece, and have loaded the new artwork to my http://nawfalnur.imagekind.com/ web gallery, and have added it to a new photo blog post, I can now relocate the “Orig” file and my new artwork file, to an offsite cloud server.
  6. I may also make a copy and put the files on an extra hard drive.
  7. When I make sure the finished artwork files have all been removed from my device SD card, then I don’t need to remember later, if I have worked with the files already, and it saves device SD card space also.

That is my method of working with new photo files and organizing them. I need to do this, or, it would make my Photography Life even more chaotic than it needs to be.

Series Description:
These artworks are photo-creations from Nawfal Johnson’s original paintings, smoke photography, and also, image creations from photographs captured of decaying urban walls. “Disorderly-Order“, the name of this series, has two distinct meanings. One, there is a method (Order) to the madness (Disorder) in the execution of these artworks. Two, the artist is taking a “more orderly” painting, or a fragment of an urban wall (photographed), or smoke-art photographs, and then turning it up-side-down, and inside-out, to get to the final photographic art representation. The disorderly characteristics from within the work are equal to the orderly nature of the design, for which the works are designed. The Photographist is working from that natural law of nature, which states that “No new matter is created in the Universe.” Thus, these are ‘two-steps’ artwork creations—The first-step is creating a painting (or photographing an urban still-life of a decaying wall, or capturing a smoke still-life); and then, the second-step is taking the original creation and designing a final art photograph using the “matter”, or contents, of the original photographs.

Matisse from SFMOMA!

Matisse Exhibition at SFMOMA

November 9, 2013 – September 7, 2014
Well, I wish I could go – I am sure it would be awesome.
Victoria, [Victoria Kloch – is a BRILLIANT Artist – see her work HERE! ] … If you go to see this show, please let me know how it was.  I think it would be one of those “WOW” moments to see so many Matisse paintings in one place.
Matisse was a big influence on the work of many Abstract Expressionists – the work of painters who I am highly respectful of, and who, in their way have influenced my way of designing my abstract photographs.  Piet Mondrian (Dutch, 1872–1944) [You can see Mondrian’s work at the MoMA website  http://www.moma.org/collection/artist.php?artist_id=4057 ]; Mark Rothko at MoMA and the Rothko Chapel in Houston, TX (USA)  ; and, Jackson Pollock, whose work I was fortunate enough to see in person, at one of my FAVORITE Art Museums, the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska.  In their permanent collection they have Pollock’s 1947, “Galaxy”Seeing that work, long ago, was one of the influences that pushed me to develop an “abstract way of seeing things.”
I have more, much more work that I think I need to look at, and then, publish here at my blog.  That’s all for now – I should get back to some other work now.  Thanks for visiting my Photography-Blog, I appreciate your “Likes” and your comments.
It is very strange, but the cloud of pigments in my right eye swim around in there and sometimes a cloud of pigments wants to wade in my eye fluid, RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY EYE’S LENS!  It is quite frustrating because it causes my vision to turn a bit foggy.  Nevertheless, when it happens, I then have to quickly move my eyes around to attempt to get the cloudiest clouds to move somewhere else.  This is, indeed, troublesome, but manageable so far.
